Synthesis and Characterisation of Some New Tris (?-Naphthyl) Bismuth (V) Carboxylates; (a-C10H7)3BiX2

A series of tris (α-naphthyl) bismuth (V) carboxylates (α-C10H7)3Bi(OCOR)2 where OCOR = p-trifluoromethyl mandelate, pmethoxy mandelate, salicylate, 2pyrazine carboxylate, mandelate have been synthesised and characterised by solid state infrared, H and C NMR spectroscopy, molecular weight and conductance measurements. The newly synthesized derivatives are monomeric in benzene and non ionic in acetonitrile. In the solid state a penta coordinate dispensation around bismuth having monodentate OCOR group indicated on the basis of spectroscopic and physic chemical datas.
